My new coaching programme:
Connection, Compassion & Wellbeing in Medicine & Surgery
How to Thrive Throughout your Career: for Medical & Surgical
trainees, consultants and nurses
The only coaching programme helping UK medical and surgical professionals learn the skills to thrive, maintain their wellbeing, and avoid burnout,
whilst also shaping a new culture of connection, compassion and collaboration.
Your wellbeing is not at the mercy of the system.
Invest in skills which will enable you to thrive as you build your medical or surgical career.
The new generation of medical professionals want a different, more inclusive and collaborative culture, for their own wellbeing, and that of others.
Make sure you know how to create that.
Through many conversations with medical and surgical trainees, nurses and new consultants, it has become very clear to me that the new generation don’t want to be part of an ‘old-school’, hierarchical system and culture. They want to work in a supportive, collaborative environment, where diversity and difference of approach and opinion are celebrated and valued. They want to find ways of working that support mental wellbeing, and move beyond models of competitiveness and conflict.
Today's trainees are ready to create a workplace where everyone can be treated with kindness and respect, and truly thrive. They are ready to lead a change in culture.
'Connection, Compassion and Wellbeing in Medicine and Surgery' is a course where, as medical or surgical professionals, you can learn powerful ways of thriving in a challenging workplace, shifting the culture around you, creating an environment that serves you and your colleagues, and experiment in doing so with my support.
This is not an academic programme. The way you think and approach problems as a doctor or surgeon is highly effective in a practical, medical context. However, it is often less helpful in other aspects of life, such as relationships with team members, and looking after your own wellbeing. Here we will be exploring what it means to be emotionally intelligent, connected and loving in our work. We'll be using words like 'intuition' and 'wisdom', maybe even 'spritual'. If that sounds woo-woo and fluffy, I can assure you it's anything but that - what I'll show you is practical on a daily basis.
Tools and techniques for wellbeing can get you so far, but new ways of understanding yourself and others will become part of how you show up every day, and therefore the way you experience everything.
This is a programme where you can take ownership of the change you want to see and learn to consciously create a new culture around you which supports your wellbeing and that of others.
You'll become a powerful catalyst for transformation.

If you can relate to any of these statements, I created this programme for you:
If you're nodding along, saying 'Yep - that's me', then 'Connection, Compassion and Wellbeing in Medicine and Surgery' is meant for you.
Through this coaching you'll discover:

We are creating the culture in which we work all the time - in the way we think, speak and behave.
Whatever we do, we are always ‘coming from’ either love or fear. These form the basis of beliefs about ourselves, the world, and other people which we then play out, and see playing out around us.
The culture within medicine, and surgery in particular, has a long history of a hierarchy based on fear – intimidation, humiliation, entitlement and power. Trainees are often on the receiving end of these behaviours which not only aim to instil fear, they come from fear, however well-disguised.
Although things are certainly changing for the better, these behaviours persist in both subtle and less subtle ways, creating an environment where stress, burnout, disillusionment and mental health problems abound. Healthcare is a challenging place to work by its very nature, but fear-based habits exacerbate the problems faced by many in their work.
Coming from love means seeking to understand others, being compassionate, looking to create greater connection with everyone we meet. The more we learn to come from love, and the less from fear, the better our lives become – whether it’s our interactions at work, our skills, our relationships or our outcomes. We all thrive and grow when we are better connected with those around us. In fear, burnout, stress, exhaustion, isolation and depression inexorably build.
When we realise that many of the behaviours we think protect us are in fact rooted in fear, we can start to understand why we may be struggling. As we find more satisfying ways to see the world, our own lives can change, as well as the culture around us.
For most, changing the way a culture has evolved over many decades seems just too much to take on, resulting in either giving up and fitting in, fighting the system at great personal cost, or simply leaving altogether.
But we all know there are many doctors, nurses, surgeons and other medical professionals who would love to create something different around them, if only they knew how it can be done.
To begin is to decide to make a change within yourself, and watch the ripples. Even as trainee you have more influence than you might think. It is also powerful to unite those who want to make change happen – whether or not you have decided to stay in healthcare for your whole career. If you are here now, you can make a difference for yourself and others, as you learn to be more open, compassionate and creative in your interactions with those around you.
Leading like this is not weak or vague. Being clear about your values and what you want to create around you can be empowering for yourself and others.
In this programme I will guide you to uncover more of your own unique qualities which will enable you to thrive, and to create change. As you learn more about how change really happens, and can start with you, you’ll become an influential leader of change in a challenging environment.
I will share resources which will help you explore this , whatever your current seniority within your team. You’ll build stronger connections and relationships, handle situations creatively and effectively and start to see changes where you thought none were possible. Your own level of wellbeing, your resilience and mental health will all benefit hugely from being part of this programme.
Either you get carried along by the current of the existing culture, worrying that at some point further on you'll be washed up, exhausted somewhere you never chose to be.
Or you proactively take ownership of your own mental wellbeing and the culture you work in, and learn to steer your own course to a sustainable and fulfilling life.
You may still be relatively junior, but the time to start doing that is now.
This is a rallying call for all who want to create something different within medicine and surgery, but until now have not known how.

Connection, Compassion and Wellbeing in Medicine & Surgery will help you:
How the Coaching Programme Works
This programme is for medical and surgical professionals, especially early in their career, who want to equip themselves with the personal skills to be resilient, compassionate and thriving leaders.
I've been sharing similar programmes for 10 years now, coaching leaders in medicine, surgery and business with great results.
Here’s how it’s structured:
This coaching is for the wise, thoughtful rebels of medicine, the leaders of the future:
those who know that looking after themselves first is what helps everyone thrive.
If you want to lead with heart and quietly transform the culture from within - this is for you.
Who Is This For?
Connection, Compassion and Wellbeing in Medicine and Surgery is for physicians surgeons and nurses who:

More about 'coming from fear' and 'coming from love'?
Behaviours like competetiveness, aggression, undermining, bullying, sarcasm, name-calling, discrimination, and also overwork, always saying yes even when you want to say no, failing to speak up for what is right - all come from a place of fear. When you are attached to your identity or your job title or role, you may feel the need to protect it, resulting in behaviours which build your sense of importance or competence - which often involve putting others down. If you fear that you are not good enough, not skilled enough, not progressing fast enough, not earning enough - these too result in behaviours which can become unhealthly for you and even toxic to those around you.
Looking beneath the surface and understanding how you create your experience from beliefs about yourself, the world and other people, can bring about dramatic transformation in life. It is not arrogant, but enlightened to understand your value, independent of any of your skills, status or achievements. Recognising when others are coming from fear also gives new insight into ways to deal with difficult behaviours we face.
Love always looks to connect, support and understand. It goes beyond individual boundaries and looks for common ground. Coming from love doesn't mean not challenging people, behaviours or structures - but when you challenge from a place of love, it is for the good of all, and the results can be quite different - for you and others. Coming from love can be challenging, but it's refreshingly practical, and enriches every aspect of life.
Coming from love creates a space where everyone can thrive.
If this resonates, this programme might be for you. But first, take a look at these questions:
- Are you ready to explore a whole new way of looking at yourself, the world and where wellbeing and culture come from?
- Will you consider that there is power in YOU to change, rather than insisting that it is others, or the system, or circumstances that are causing your difficulties?
- Are you ready to have your whole idea of what's possible blown wide open?
- Are you willing to be directed away from conversations about what is wrong to explore a new way of understanding yourself and how your experience is created? This is where real transformation comes from.
- Will you share what you learn with your team, so a wider ripple of change is created?
If so, please join me.
Be part of a positive movement for change
Culture is not fixed. It is being created, moment by moment, as you and your colleagues go about your daily work.
Connection, Compassion and Wellbeing in Medicine and Surgery will enable you to be conscious of your role in creating this culture and proactively shape your future career and that of others for the better.
What my Clients Say
I've coached CEOs, senior leaders, medical and surgical consultants, GP partners and trainers, who have rediscovered their passion for their work, massively reduced their burden of stress, learned to speak up for what they really want, lead teams with greater influence and confidence and achieved significant pay increases.
I've also seen my clients start sleeping better at night, establish more harmonious and loving relationships with partners and children and finally align life with their values. It all comes from a greater understanding of themselves and others, the desire to live from love, not fear, and the ability to trust themselves as they tap into their own intuition.
