I feel privileged to work with medical professionals who are feeling in need of support.

They may be feeling stressed or overwhelmed because of professional issues, personal issues, or an acute process, such as facing a complaint or investigation by the GMC.

The medical professionals I work with often report that it is hard to ask for support from colleagues or share feelings, especially of self-doubt, for fear of looking weak or even incompetent.

This breeds an atmosphere of ‘people like us don’t have difficulties’ and can lead to increased feelings of struggle and isolation while presenting a brave face to colleagues and even friends and family.

Our coaching work together, although originally about a specific professional matter, has positively impacted many areas of my work and my personal life. I feel more at ease in my leadership role, confident in my decisions and better able to handle tricky situations at home. I also feel that there are more hours in the day, which is a real bonus for a busy GP!

I cannot thank you enough for the guidance, challenge and light bulb moments you have helped me to experience.

But with the high-pressure situations you consistently work in, of course it is completely normal to feel stressed, anxious or to question yourself at times.

Everybody does, whether they admit it to themselves or not. It doesn’t mean anything about your competence or your suitability for your role. Support outside of the workplace can help you to thrive despite the pressures of the job.

I have worked with medical professionals who have been under scrutiny or had their professional integrity questioned. Others have asked for support as they settle into roles requiring greater leadership responsibility or are facing conflict with colleagues. Many find that their personal life suffers as they struggle with issues at work.

Whilst you may have practical support from the BMA, personal coaching during this time can be extremely valuable in helping you deal with your feelings and your internal world, giving you the extended time you need to explore different ways of dealing with what you are facing.

I feel that my decision-making, resilience and general well-being have all improved dramatically.  Work and life have become far less stressful for me, as have the general day to day pressures of life which previously might have floored me.  I feel relaxed and confident as I approach the next stage of my career, even though there is still much that is unpredictable.

If it doesn't seem possible to feel calm, optimistic and secure at a time like this – I understand. However, reconnecting with a deep sense of who you are, beyond your professional and personal identity and an understanding of states of mind, can make the world of difference.

We all know that the statistics on doctors’ wellbeing and even suicide make depressing reading. I’m on a mission to teach medical professionals and their teams an understanding that goes beyond techniques and quick fix strategies, so they can tap into their innate resilience, and not wait till crisis point to find support. Discovering your innate resilience is like plugging into the mains, when you’ve spent your entire life running on batteries!

My clients report that they...

  • Feel less stressed
  • Sleep better at night
  • Express themselves more effectively in meetings
  • Feel less fearful or anxious about outcomes
  • Perform better at work overall
  • Create positive changes in their personal lives
  • Create change in ways that previously looked impossible
  • Handle difficult people and situations with greater ease
  • Feel more comfortable taking the lead in their organisation

I would love to help you do the same!
